Queries Maybe More Sophisticated Than We Think
I Hate Search. Don’t Hate Search. Now, I Speak Search. Next week, “I Heart
Search” and “I Grok Search” will be coming, as well as “Search On Board.” But
back to I Speak Search, Gord Hotchkiss’s article in MediaPost today. He
suggests that maybe searchers are more sophisticated than we think, even if
they only use a few words when searching. “We have learned how to make a few
words go a long way,” he writes and wonders if terse, Hemmingway-like searches
may translate into how we deal with each other….
Craigslist Says No To Oodle’s Scraping
Via John Battelle,
news that classified ads search engine Oodle has been asked by Craigslist
to stop scraping their listings. Oodle says most listings, 80 percent, don’t
come from Craigslist. Still, Craiglist has great data, and it’s a blow for
those to be gone. Looking over at Google, I see Craiglist seems to have no
problem of Google
indexing 12 million of its pages. Of course, there’s a difference between
indexing a page and scraping the content to be included in a more vertical
service. Meanwhile, HousingMaps, a
blend of Google Maps and Craigslist seems still OK. John’s seeking reaction
from Craiglist, so keep an eye out over there.- Fake
PageRank Detection Tool
Using redirection and cloaking, a site can lay claim to the PageRank score of
another site, with Dark SEO Team giving you a classic example here. Is it
really a PR10 site, or is it Memorex? Actually, it’s Google….

Google Leads in UK Search Race
According to new research from Hitwise, Google powers 7 in 10 UK searches. The
study also reported that 94% of all UK searches come from the top four
engines..
Bloglines Announces Enhancements To Service

announcing several new enchancements to the Bloglines web-based news

The Infoworld article: Google’s Blogger service now accessible in China,
reports that the Blogger service (at least for the time being) is back online
and accessible in China after being blocked in 2002. Also, the Google cache is
also now accessible to Google users in China….
