Brand New Topics at SES Toronto 2010

It’s easy to spot the new topics on the SES Toronto 2010 agenda. There’s a little red maple leaf next to each one.

So, there are already 11 new topics on the agenda — and one addition session is “Reserved for Late-Breaking Topic.”

This means half of the content at SES Tronto 2010 is brand new. Or, to look through the other end of the telescope, this implies that half of what you learned a year ago is probably out-of-date.

I know, I know, it’s hard keeping up with the rapid changes in the industry. Just last week, Google announced a number of new search enhancements. One is a search refinement that calls out brand names related to your query in a single line above the rest of the results. Determined algorithmically, these highlighted brand names may help you find what you’re looking for faster.

This changes the game for marketers who don’t have brand name products. If you want examples, check out search results for generic terms like digital camera, wedding dress, and stroller.

Oh, and that was just one of the changes. I’ve already written about the “Pages similar to” link. If you missed it, read “You’ll Never Guess Who Is Similar to Matt Cutts?

So, what can you do? Well, I’ve attended SES Toronto each and every year since 2004. And I’ll be heading back again this year.

I’m speaking at the session, Video: The Next Marketing Frontier, and I’m moderating the session, Search, PR & the Social Butterfly. Both are brand new topics with little red maple leafs — so I’ll be out there on the brink of the verge of the bleeding edge.

But you’ll want to be there, too. The industry moves so rapidly — and sometimes it moves sideways instead of where you thought it was going.

Now, I’ve made my case using words. But, as the title of the session says, video is the next marketing frontier.

So, let me introduce you to two guys who need no introduction: Matt McGowan, Publisher and Head of U.S. for Incisive Media, and Mike Grehan, VP and Global Content Director with Incisive Media. I’ll let Matt and Mike bust some moves in their latest video.

Peace out.
