Last September, Google’s YouTube property started streaming live broadcasts. Since that time, they have begun showing numerous live events including IPL Cricket matches, conversations with the President of the United States and even a 24-hour Conan O’Brien marathon event. This morning, Bloomberg reported Google is in talks with the National Basketball Association and National Hockey League to broadcast live games.

Other sources report that NHL officials deny talking about any live broadcasts on YouTube and that Google is only discussing streaming NBA games to Asian markets.

Both leagues have channels on YouTube. Regardless of what happens, Gautam Anand, Google’s director of content partnerships for Asia Pacific said YouTube is in negotiations with “most pro sports leagues” and to expect to see “a lot more appealing sports content” on YouTube in the future.
