Google Adds 34-Button Voice-Enabled Scientific Calculator to Search

Google’s updated calculator allows users to type in mathematical problems and see a full 34-button scientific version. Chrome and mobile users can also simply speak the problem aloud, rather than typing it in the search bar.

Google has updated the calculator available on the search page. The new version of the calculator has 34 buttons and allows users to perform sine, tangent, cosine, square root, and other scientific functions.

It’s also voice-enabled, so users with Chrome on the desktop or mobile versions of the Google search engine can simply say the problem, rather than typing it in.

In a Google+ post announcing the new calculator, Google explained, “Sometimes it’s hard to do math quickly in your head, like when you have to figure what 57.55 plus 68.43 divided by two is.” They continued, “Now we’ve redesigned the calculator feature so when you type in an equation, you see an actual scientific calculator, complete with functions like square root and log.”

Late last year, Google launched a graphing calculator in search that takes mathematical problems and converts the results to an interactive graph.
