Vince Vaughn, Owen Wilson and other Hollywood stars have been spotted on campus at Georgia Tech in Atlanta, shooting scenes for their new comedy about working at Google. Penned by Vaughn, the screenplay sees two tech-challenged men in their 40s (Vaughn and Wilson) intern at Google after their jobs are made redundant.

A Reddit user and student at Georgia Tech shared pictures of the Google logo and colored beanbag-style furniture on set.

Vaughn described the plot to the Huffington Post last week “I’m working with Owen Wilson on a movie called “The Internship” where Owen and I lose our jobs and become interns at Google. We get free food, we get to play ping pong and take naps… We find a way to get into the intern program and try to get a job there. It’s fun to go back and do some R-rated comedies again.”

Reports peg John Goodman as the alpha boss character, with Aasif Mandvi as the “tough head of the internship program” at Google. Mandvi confirmed his role and cracked a joke about how it’s going so far on his Twitter account (see below).

Other cast members include Rose Byrne, Dylan O’Brien, Jessica Szohr, Max Minghella, and comedian Eric Andre.

Georgia Tech confirmed in a post on their website their campus had been selected for filming, noting that “Georgia Tech’s Office of Capital Planning and Space Management has worked closely with 20th Century Fox to ensure minimal disruption during production.”

Blogger Adam Carlson spotted another filming location elsewhere in Atlanta earlier in July and described the scene:

“As it turns out, I showed up as the crew was beginning prep on an outdoor sequence across the street from the Studios, which would include both a fire hydrant specially painted red and a Google bus.

The scenes indoors probably had a Google connection, too, Cecilia and Rex told me: a Coke machine had been installed on a top floor with a Google banner across it, covering the logo.”

CastingCallHub put out a call for extras last week, describing the film as follows:

The Internship will find Vaughn and Wilson playing best friends who are victims of downsizing and lose their sales jobs. With the economy struggling and few prospects the two decide to start back from the beginning and take internship positions at a high tech corporation. The Internship was written by Vince Vaughn himself and will be directed by Shawn Levy the man behind such hits as The Pink Panther, Night At The Museum and Real Steel.

If you’re hoping for a behind-the-scenes peek into life at Google, don’t hold your breath; by all accounts, Google themselves seem a minor player and little more than a setting in the film. If Vaughn and Wilson stay true to form, expect plenty of raunchy one-liners and scenarios at Google’s expense.

“We’re excited that Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson chose the Google campus as a backdrop for their first film together since ‘Wedding Crashers.’ We’re sure they’ll have a humorous take on life in Silicon Valley and look forward to seeing the result,” a Google spokesperson told Search Engine Watch.

“The Internship” is scheduled for release sometime in 2013.
