Announced in August, and already available on smartphones running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, Google’s updated voice search application looks set to take on Apple’s Siri. The app can now undertand queries such as, “Is United Airlines flight 318 on time?” according to Google, and brings the results up on the screen of your iDevice or speaks them aloud.

“When you have a question, finding the answer should be effortless – wherever you are and whatever device you’re using,” Google said on its blog. “The new Google Search app for Iphone and Ipad helps you to do just that with enhanced voice search that answers any question with the comprehensive Google search results you know and love.”

There’s also some other neat trickery included in the updated iOS application. Asking Google to “Play the new James Bond movie trailer” will see the clip immediately start playing in Google search, while a question such as, “When does daylight savings time end?” will see the link appear above the search results so you can quickly change your clock.

The updated Google Search app is available to download from the iTunes Store, and works on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.
