Described as “seamless solution that redefines what’s possible in the world of social commerce”, Amex Sync requires that you synchronize an American Express card with your Twitter account.

Thousands of merchant offers have since been promoted on the platform, resulting in millions of dollars in savings for card members, Brad Minor, VP of public relations and social media communications at American Express, told ClickZ.

“This is part of a long-term path to digital transformation for American Express. We are focused on delivering our card members and merchant partners with relevant and valuable experiences where they are – and increasingly, that is on social media,” he adds. “We’ve also seen growth in followers for our merchant partners, an increase in conversation about those brands in social media.”

U.S. residents who want in can go to sync.americanexpress.com/twitter and perform the necessary steps.

Doing this enters you into a world where tweeting a hashtagged keyword will make your Twitter account contact your American Express card account and make a purchase.

You can pick up items in retail stores or arrange for them to be delivered to your home.

The arrangement launched with some tweeted buying opportunities, including an Xbox 360 controller for $29.99 plus tax and an Amazon Kindle Fire HD for $149.99 plus tax.

A video produced by American Express shows a brief walkthrough of how it works.
