Facebook Testing Mobile Search Feature With Keywords

The tool will allow users to search for keywords in posts they are "in the audience for" on Facebook, the social network says.

Facebook is reportedly testing a mobile feature that allows users to search old posts from friends by keyword, according to Bloomberg.

“We’re testing an improvement to search on mobile. In this test you can use keywords to search for posts you’re in the audience for on Facebook,” a Facebook spokesperson says in an emailed statement to SEW.

The tool, which is only available to some Facebook users as of Bloomberg’s report on August 28, lets mobile users search any content that was previously available to them through friends or pages they followed.

Facebook is running the test of the feature on mobile devices as it continues to roll out Graph Search to smartphones and tablets, the Bloomberg report says. The Facebook spokesperson did not comment further on the social network’s rollout plans.

Facebook launched Graph Search to its U.S. English users in August 2013, saying the feature appears as a larger search bar at the top of the page and allows users to “search for friends and Pages by name, or use simple phrases to find something specific across people, photos, places, interests, and more,” like, “People from my hometown,” or, “Friends of friends who live nearby and like playing tennis.”

And, the following month, Facebook added posts and status updates to Graph Search, meaning users could also search for status updates, photo captions, check-ins, and comments shared with them.

Facebook confirmed it was testing mobile Graph Search in February.
