Bing is getting in on the FIFA Women’s World Cup, which kicked off in Canada this weekend, by making stats and scores instantly searchable.
When users search “Women’s World Cup,” the first thing they’ll see is the schedule at the top of the results. The results are organized by day and come complete with score, standings, stats and predictions. In another sidebar, Bing will feature the entire U.S. roster, making it easier for users to learn more about individual players.
Using search, social and other relevant data, Bing has often successfully predicted the outcomes of major sporting events, awards shows, elections and televised competitions, such as American Idol and Dancing with the Stars. For the Women’s World Cup, the search giant is hoping to predict winners again, giving Sweden 90 percent odds over Nigeria, while today’s games between Cameroon and Ecuador, and Japan and Switzerland are expected to be much closer. Bing foretells that Germany will be the winner of the entire championship, just as they were last summer in the men’s tournament.
Searching “Women’s World Cup” on Yahoo brings a similar box with the schedule, though without the exhaustive predictions. For Google’s part, today’s doodle is World Cup-themed, with a goalie making a particularly impressive save to form the “L” in Google.
