Bing Redesigns Maps for Better User Experience

Based on user feedback, Bing has developed fresh updates for Maps.

Bing has improved its map services to let users search for more information on their destinations and have easy access to reviews and photos.

By employing location data, Bing Maps has enhanced its search capabilities and directions. Now users can enter the date and time they plan to travel and view the estimated drive time. Through a new split screen over the map, users can see traffic in real time and adjust plans accordingly. They can also take a 360-degree tour of the area or drag along the map to view a new location.

arrive-on-time

For long-distance trips, users can depend on a new feature called Along the Route to find hotels, restaurants and gas stations for a more convenient road trip. Currently this feature is only available in the U.S.

Meanwhile, Bing has made Maps more personalized with My Places. By right-clicking on a location, users can save the place under work, home or favorite. It will even sync with Cortana and the Windows Maps app.

Of course, creative is important for Bing Maps. The service has organized search results into “cards” that are displayed to the left of the map. The cards show destinations in a single view and each card displays relevant information, such as reviews from Yelp and TripAdvisor.

Once users have planned a trip, they can share the plan with their travel companions, who will receive an email with a set of results cards. Users can also choose a preferred map style, such as Aerial or Road by clicking on the button to the right of the map.

These new tools are available through the Bing Maps Preview on desktop now and are on the way to Bing Maps mobile apps.

Bing Maps Preview is currently available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia and South Africa. It will be rolled out to more markets in the near future.
