Yahoo Adding A Number of Local Features
The Yahoo blog announced a number of new local features it will be rolling out in the near future.
A Sketch-A-Search app that allows you to draw a circle around an area on their maps and get restaurants in the area and then allow you to filter by various criteria such as type of cuisine or ratings. This is going to be tied in with Zagat ratings.
An Open Table app where you can make a reservation, a restaurant comparison app, a Rich Search app that provides answers as opposed to links and a Yahoo Clues app that allows you to “search the searchers.”
For a company that is supposed to be getting out of search many of these seem to be very search related.
“Yahoo! Clues is a new beta service that gives you a unique “behind the scenes” look into popular trends across the millions of people who use Yahoo! to search each day.
With Yahoo! Clues, you can discover and compare trending information for search terms of interest to you, or explore popular trending search terms on Yahoo!,” the Clues blog details.
Local search and marketing seems to be the push for this year, how these apps are embraced will be worth watching.
