Google has confirmed that the next iteration of its mobile operating system will be known as Android Jelly Bean by unveiling a statue at its headquarters campus in Mountain View, California.

In typical Google fashion, the company has propped up a model of a jelly bean-themed structure in its front yard alongside its ice cream sandwich, honeycomb, éclair and frozen yogurt lawn ornaments.

A picture of the jelly beans spilling onto Google’s lawn was posted by a developer on Google+, revealing to the world that the company will unveil the next release of its mobile operating system at its Google I/O conference in San Francisco today.

Android Jelly Bean is expected to launch as version 4.1 and is unlikely to be a major update, with just “0.1” between this release and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Still, Google is also expected to launch its first own branded tablet, the rumoured Google Nexus 7, which will aim to take market share from the Apple iPad with its budget price tag.
