Google Acquires Episodic Online Video Platform for Broadcasting Live and On-Demand Content
On Friday, Episodic announced that has been acquired by Google. According to Noam Lovinsky and Matias Cudich, Co-Founders of Episodic, “The Episodic team will join Google and continue its work to bring a great video experience to the Web, mobile phones and IPTV devices.”
Last year, Episodic delivered online video to mobile devices, including the iPhone, BlackBerry, and Windows Mobile. More recently, Episodic has become a comprehensive platform for broadcasting live and on-demand video to the web or any web-enabled device.
The online video platform lets publishers and marketers host, stream, measure and monetize their video content. Content creators, marketers and enterprise customers like Showtime Sports use Episodic to deliver video to the Web and mobile devices.
The purchase of Episodic marks Google’s fifth acquisition so far this year. Terms of the deal were not released.
On The Eposodic Blog, Lovinsky and Cudich wrote, “At Episodic, we have always felt that these are the very early days of online video and that there is far more growth to be had. To put it in perspective, our industry is barely 15 years old. We’ve just received our learner’s permit, we still can’t drive without adult supervision and we’re certainly not old enough to buy a drink…legally.”
