Muse US downloads outpace ChatGPT’s debut, Sensor Tower estimates

The US comparison comes alongside estimates of Meta's promotional spending and Muse's retention.

Sensor Tower estimates 10.2 million Muse US downloads in 40 days, TechCrunch reports.

ChatGPT reached 3.7 million US downloads over its own first 40 days, according to the Sensor Tower figures reported by 9to5Mac. That puts Muse’s US launch at nearly three times ChatGPT’s pace.

The comparison covers each app’s US launch

ChatGPT’s opening 40 days produced about 15 million downloads worldwide, the report says. Its launch reached markets including Japan, Brazil and Germany, so the US comparison captures only part of that initial audience.

Sensor Tower estimates downloads using proprietary panels and data science models, according to the research note reviewed by PPC Land. That account does not give a Muse panel sample size.

Muse takes an estimated 39% of Meta’s US ad spending

Muse accounted for an estimated 39% of Meta’s US advertising spending in October so far, up from 23% in September, according to 9to5Mac’s report. The figures do not separate paid acquisition from downloads through other routes.

The same report estimates US retention at 30% after seven days and 23% after 14 days. Those returning-user measures give a clearer view of continued use than the download total, although the research does not measure retailer sales.

Muse supports shopping and business tasks

Meta introduced Muse on September 8 with its own browser on a cloud computer. It can prepare purchases and fill out forms, while users approve sensitive actions such as buying something.

Its September 29 business expansion added connections to services including Shopify and Meta business accounts.

The business workflows available through Muse include campaign analysis and advertising drafts. Meta says owners must approve actions that publish, send or spend.
