Halloween is tomorrow, meaning searches for costume ideas on Google and Yahoo are hot this week (and have been growing since late August). Their lists of rising searches may give you a sneak preview of what you can expect to see at Halloween parties this weekend, and what you may want to avoid if you’re looking for some last minute ideas.
Top Halloween Costumes
- Snooki (with honorable mentions to fellow “Jersey Shore” stars Pauly D and The Situation)
- Avatar
- Iron Man
- Lady Gaga (searches for “meat costume” have grown more than 5,000% since July.)
- Mad Hatter
- Peacock
- Wonder Woman
- Glee Cheerios
- Justin Bieber
- Katy Perry
- Kenny Powers
Hitwise also reported that Michael Jackson and Nicki Minaj are among the most popular celebrity costume searches, while more generic searches included:
- Queen of Hearts (the top Australia costume search)
- Catwoman
- Gypsy
- Tinkerbell
Yahoo also checked in with their top five most popular costume queries:
- Disney characters (including all of the princesses and Toy Story characters)
- Lady Gaga
- Pirate
- Alice in Wonderland
- Masquerade
Also of note, searches for Chilean miner costume spiked by 7,100 percent in the third week of October. Popular home-made costumes this year include scarecrows and hobos.
In the U.K., top costume searches included skeleton, zombie, Mario, and Buzz Lightyear.

Hitwise added vampire, Tinkerbell, and Peter Pan for the babies, while top toddler searches were for cow, Strawberry Shortcake, and pink poodle.
Also, trending for the kids out trick-or-treating are Avatar, Lady Gaga, werewolves, and Strawberry Shortcake.
